“As a life time member of the VFW, and having worked in Poway over 20yrs, this is my first visit to this post. I do really like the location as it is tucked away neatly and feels like a really nice safe area. By chance, I selected my first time to be on a Wednesday during a period that lunch is served. What a great way to first time visit. Parking a little tight, due to Wednesday lunch service. I walked inside and was hit with a refreshing blast of cool AC. How nice it felt coming in out of the heat of Poway. Ordered my food, initially not knowing or caring what it was....but that I was hungry. Went to area to drop off my ticket, and the cook asked me "Crab legs or Lobster?" I was taken aback, as i do not eat "Ocean Rodents"..I was a bit startled and dumbfounded, not knowing what to say..he then said just kidding! Chicken mashed potatoes with a sauce, and boiled vegetables. Whew! Great! Ate my chow, it was very good. Portion was too much for me, so I ate half. I checked out the post, and I thought it was very nice setup. I am sure the local VFW members love their post, and feel safe here. Very nice post. I do look forward to research the history of this post to include LT Fred Lewis Kent Upside #1: Always great to see the familiar face in the Urinal, where she should be. Downside: As you approach to walk up to the VFW building, or to park, you must pass the special box (Flag Disposal Box) that is the storage for flags to be disposed of in a dignified and respectful manner. Every VFW has one. I have seen many in my travels to visit VFW's. I must admit, half are indoors and half are outdoors. The box itself must be worthy for storage of tattered, beaten, torn flags that are to be disposed of in the future. This box is not! I will gladly assist to make the box more fitting of it's role. If not, please fix, upgrade or replace the box, as it stands in front at "Parade Rest" for all to see. Breaks my heart a little. Anyway, great post, great folks, great food, great safe area for VFW members to rest, eat, have a drink, or to donate their services....”
